Leilão a Favor da Susanag

O sistema de saúde no nosso país no geral, já se sabe como é....mas o de saúde oral, especificamente, é o degredo! Podemos estar anos numa lista de espera, até termos direito a uma consulta de saúde oral e, quando finalmente somos atendidos, descobrimos que toda essa espera foi em vão, uma vez que o nosso problema é ortodontia(São coisas diferentes, porque nem todos os dentistas têm esta especialização! Que chatisse!) E por isso temos que marcar uma outra consulta e aguardar mais uns anos....

...se por outro lado, preferirmos encurtar os anos de espera, podemos sempre recorrer ao sector privado e aí....gastar fortunas!!!!

Eu, honestamente, optei pelo sector privado. Andei 2 anos a pagar os meus três aparelhos e ainda continuo a pagar consultas para mudar os elásticos, mas acho que valeu a pena. Mas eu sou uma das pessoas que felizmente teve a possibilidade de escolher. Ainda vivo na casa dos papás, e por isso, aproveitei metade do ordenado do meu part-time, para investir na minha saúde e no meu bem-estar.

Mas nem todas as pessoas se podem dar a este luxo.

Uma delas é a Susanag, membro do meu querido e estimado Crafty Fórum. Por isso, ela teve a excelente ideia de criar um blog, em que várias pessoas (solidárias) doaram artigos, que estão em leilão nesse mesmo blog. Assim, os valores obtidos através da venda dessas peças, revertem a favor da Saúde Oral da querida Susanag.

Ora,se há por aí quem faça peditórios para angariar dinheiro para fazer extensões de cabelo, então porque não leiloar peças e juntar dinheiro para arranjar os dentes???

Achei a ideia bastante criativa e decidi demonstrar o meu apoio divulgando a causa aqui no meu cantinho!

Há lá muitas coisas em leilão, muito giras e uteis.Além disso, os valores base de licitação são mesmo simbólicos. Então, por favor, deiam lá um saltinho, e contribuam para esta causa, que merece a nossa atenção!

Estou numa das alturas mais importantes da minha vida. Após um verão cheio de novidades e de expectativa, estou finalmente nos últimos preparativos para o inicio das aulas, mas desta vez, no Ensino Superior! Como os mais atentos devem saber, saíram esta semana os resultados das colocações, e eu, fiquei na ESART, em Castelo Branco, no Curso de Design de Moda e Têxtil!

Apesar de me perguntar se fiz bem colocar Design de Moda como 1ª opção, estou muito feliz, porque acredito que me vou sair bem nesta area, espero aprender muito e....já que os veteranos insistem...divertir-me muito também....afinal....acho que até mereço!!

Uma Pequena Conquista

Estimados e Estimadas Seguidoras:

Sou oficialmente Técnica de Acção Social! É uma sensação, indescritível.......de ALÍVIO, porque já não aguentava mais estudar coisas que não me despertavam grande interesse. Apesar de tudo, foi uma experiência de vida que adquiri, uma oportunidade para aprender a ver a vida de ângulos diferentes e uma preciosa ajuda para o meu crescimento também.

Para quem não tinha interesse nenhum, até não acabei com uma média muito má: 143 valores, já é qualquer coisinha, não é??

Depois de uma etapa chegada ao fim, heis que se avisinha uma outra, esta muito mais importante para mim:

O Ensino Superior. Como muitas pessoas devem saber, a época de candidaturas arrancou hoje, e eu já enviei a minha. Adivinha-se um resto de Verão com o coração nas mãos. Apesar de acreditar que tenho notas e preferência regional a meu favor, a verdade é que há sempre um receio de que as coisas não corram como o desejado. Além disso, concluir os meus estudos numa área que me dê verdadeiramente satisfação é um sonho que já venho a adiar há alguns anos. Pelo menos, o 12º já ninguém me tira!

Resta-me ter fé na Virgem e não correr....pk não adianta nada. O que está feito, está feito, não é?

Ora, para manter o meu Verão e os meus pensamentos aliviados da pressão que é gerada pela dúvida, nada melhor que ocupar o meu tempo - livre a fazer coisas que gosto:

Bem...isto hoje promete!

Não só acabo de receber a minha nota da 1ª fase do Exame Nacional de Desenho A, como também tenho finalmente a apresentação do meu projecto (que não é só meu) de final de curso "Velhos são os Trapos".

Como se não bastasse ainda recebi hoje este lindo selo comprovativo do meu 2º Lugar no 5ºConcurso Crafty com o tema: Artes Culinárias!!

Esparguete à Bolonhesa

Para o 5º Concurso Crafy, com o tema: "Artes Culinárias", deixo-vos a minha humilde participação e a respectiva descrição. As votações terminaram ontem...e pelo andar da carruagem, devo ficar com o glorioso, segundo lugar. Nada mau para quem não está habituado a ganhar nem feijões...

"Como algumas já devem saber, eu sou das andanças do Design de Moda, assim como a minha fada Kathamina. Então resolvi desenhar dois croquis para o concurso, inspirados numa das minhas comidas favoritas: A esparguete!
Eu por acaso gosto de esparguete de todas as formas, mas escolhi para inspiração um prato especifico por causa das cores: Esparguete à Bolonhesa.
Ora, estes dois croquis são duas propostas possíveis para uma bailarina de danças de salão, por exemplo.
Têm duas cores principais, o Vermelho, (para simbolizar o molho de tomate com a carne picada) e o Beige, (para simbolizar a cor da esparguete). Neste caso a cor das peças que representam a esparguete está um bocado saturada, porque como fiz os croquis à mão a aguarela e depois os digitalizei, ficaram muito clarinhos e por isso foi preciso dar uns retoques no Photoshop, daí a cor mais acastanhada. De qualquer das formas não foge muito à realidade do prato, uma vez que se forem gulosas como eu misturam tudo e depois a esparguete acaba por deixar de ser tão clarinha!
Também graças à leve edição em photoshop não se notam os apontamentos de prateado nos sapatos, na bijuteria e em missangas que "espalhei" pelos vestidos. Essa parte representa o Queijo Mozzarela ralado, que é como quem diz, "a cereja em cima do bolo", neste caso, na esparguete, mas também o apontamento de brilho que faltava nas roupas!!!
Os materiais que escolheria para concretizar as peças talvez fossem os seguintes:
- Para a "Esparguete" ou seja, aqueles "desfiados que sobressaiem de ambas as peças, escolheria feltro em cor crua. Porquê?
Por duas razões: Para já se utilizarmos a técnica que é normalmente utilizada para fazer as bonequinhas e outras coisas, é muito fácil fazer tiras, tiras e mais tiras de vários tamanhos e enrolá-las como a esparguete e como no desenho. Depois, como seriam apenas tiras de feltro e não um tecido, tornam-se leves, não muito quentes (isso é importante, se se vai dançar, não é?), além disso, a leveza e o facto de serem tiras permite acompanhar os movimentos (semelhantes às franjas em certas roupas) o que acaba por ser muito giro de se ver, nas danças de salão;
- Para o "Molho" ou as porções de tecido vermelho presentes nos croquis escolheria talvez sablé para aquela espécie de corpete embaloado num dos croquis e licra para as leggins do outro." por Manteiga Voadora

PROJECT RUNWAY CHEGA À RTP1

A RTP vai transmitir em breve o formato português do conhecidíssimo programa de tv americano "Project Runaway" (conhecidíssimo para os americanos e para os telespectadores da Sic Mulher (Acuso-me!))

Para quem não sabe é....como é que eu hei-de explicar...uma espécie de "Ídolos" versão "Design de Moda".

Não se sabe ainda o que serão os prémios cá em Portugal, ou sequer se irá ter algum sucesso...mas algum prestígio com certeza trará para quem se aventurar...

Eu tomei conhecimento do programa, através de uma mp enviada pelo do Crafty Fórum, pela minha preciosa amiga Kathamina. O título da mensagem dizia: "Super Urgente" !!!! E claro, era ela a incentivar-me a participar...

Assim, achei conveniente divulgar a abertura das inscrições aqui no meu cantinho com asas, não só porque poderão haver visitantes que também partilhem da mesma paixão por Design de Moda como eu, como também considero ser o meu dever informar todos os meus seguidores acerca da minha decisão relativamente a esta iniciativa:

Desde que me inscrevi no Crafty que não paro de experimentar técnicas novas!

Primeiro o fimo, o crochet e agora a decoupage! São técnicas que eu já conhecia, mas nunca me tinha atrevido a experimentar! Algumas mais fáceis que outras, mas todas viciantes!!

Aqui ficam algumas fotos de coisitas que tenho feito ultimamente!!!

Bom...não é nada de especial, mas fazer estas coisitas têm me dado alguma motivação!!

Agradecimento às Patrocinadoras do Projecto: "Velhos são os Trapos"

Como referi no post anterior, ando muito ocupada com as minhas colegas Helaine e Sofia em torno do nosso projecto para a P.A.T. , "Velhos São os Trapos".

Queríamos fazer uma feira lá na escola com o objectivo de angariar fundos para cobrir as nossas despesas para o teatro, mas afinal....a feirinha já não se vai realizar...quero dizer...não se vai realizar pelo menos da forma como a idealizámos, porque tanto eu como a Sofia vamos de malas feitas para a escola e montamos a feira no meio da aula!!! Alguma coisa se Há-de vender!!!:D

Com a sugestão da minha amiga Kathamina, divulguei os contornos do projecto num cantinho de artes sem o qual eu já não posso passar, o Crafty e pedi a quem estivesse disposto a contribuir com uma peça das suas que nós pudéssemos vender na suposta feirinha.

Várias pessoas se mostraram interessadas, mas nem todas tiveram a possibilidade de contribuir com alguma coisa. Isso não é importante, pois o facto de se terem sensibilizado pela nossa causa já é muito importante para nós. Assim deixo aqui a essas pessoas o meu muito obrigado em nome também das minhas colegas de grupo.

Se por um lado muitas pessoas se mostraram sensibilizadas pelo nosso projecto, algumas excederam as nossas expectativas, pois apenas pedi uma peça a cada uma,mas cada uma das que contribuiu, enviou mais do que o que era pedido. Isto reflecte não só as linhas de amizade, entreajuda e carinho com que se cozem os membros do Crafty como também prova que ainda existem seres neste mundo com a capacidade de oferecerem amizade desinteressada e mais do que isso, solidariedade!

Assim, o mínimo que posso fazer por elas é divulgar as suas moradas internáuticas, e ao mesmo tempo agradecer-lhes publicamente o carinhoso gesto que tiveram a favor do nosso projecto.

Agora algumas coisinhas que fiz entretanto:

Aqui está a "feira" arranjada dentro de casa!!! A maioria das coisinhas são feitas por mim, mas também tem algumas da Quazarte, uma da Titarte e claro, muitas das peças foram feitas com materiais enviados pela Titarte. Os quadros eu já os pintei ha mt tempo, mas decidi doá-los em favor do projecto também.

Aqui estão carteirinhas feitas a partir de pacotes de leite, forrados com tecido (ideia da Quazarte!)

E as aplicações em feltro são da parte da Titarte.

Uma ideia para mim muito bem conseguida...São pisa-papéis...no entanto a maioria das pessoas a quem mostro dizem-me: "O QUE É ISTO?? UM CALHAU????"

Mais uma agenda telefónica, neste caso feita especialmente por encomenda para uma amiga minha.

Velhos São os Trapos

Não sei se alguma vez disse aqui que ainda estou a concluir um Curso Tecnológico de Acção Social. É pah, ainda bem que já posso dizer que o estou a concluir...já não posso mais...se tivesse mais um ano que fosse, mandava tudo à fava e ficava a trabalhar na Nórting para todo o sempre!

Acho que também nunca referi onde é que trabalho, mas isso também não interessa nada!

Onde é que eu ia?

Ah...Curso Tecnológico de Acção Social....então, para concluir o curso, ao contrário do que se pensa, não basta ser aprovado a todas as disciplinas...nãaaao...também temos que fazer uma coisa chamada P.A.T. (Prova de Aptidão Tecnológica).

Ora, a minha PAT,que está a ser desenvolvida em conjunto com duas colegas de curso, chama-se "Velhos são os Trapos". Com este projecto e com a colaboração da Sta. Casa da Misericórdia de Castelo Branco, queremos mostrar ao pessoal, que nem "os velhos" nem os "trapos" são realmente velhos...

Vamos mostrar isso ao pessoal, através de uma peça de teatro, desenvolvida por nós e com a ajuda dos idosos e com os meninos da sala dos 5 anos, da Sta. Casa de Castelo Branco.

Desde há uns tempos para cá, que vamos lá todas as semanas, fazer um bocadito do nosso trabalho. Agora, chegou a altura de tratar da peça em si. Por isso, como os cenários, as roupas e tudo o resto não caiem do céu, tivemos a brilhante ideia de fazer umas coisinhas para vender, de forma a angariar uns fundos para essas coisas todas.

O meu desempenho nisto tudo, tem sido abaixo do medíocre, uma vez que não me sinto vocacionada para nada que tenha a ver com este curso....no entanto, a minha oportunidade de fazer algo util, surgiu finalmente.

Com esta venda para angariação de fundos, posso finalmente fazer qualquer coisa que me dê animo e que me faça sentir que realmente faço parte deste projecto. Naturalmente que o sinto cada vez que vou ao lar, que me envolvo com aquelas gentes que ainda têm tanto para dar...mas é claro que a minha praia são as artes, os trabalhos manuais e aquelas coisas todas que não têm nada a ver com o meu curso....que rica técnica de acção social....

Resumindo....estas fotos são algumas bugigangas que eu fiz para vender....alguém compra???

Para o 2ºConcurso Crafty: "País das Maravilhas"

Como já devem ter percebido, o tema do concurso foi "País das Maravilhas" por isso achei uma boa ideia inspirar-me em Macondo.

1ª - O que é esta coisa de Macondo?
Ora bem,Macondo" é o nome de uma cidade fictícia idealizada por Gabriel García Marquez que em lingua Bantu (seja lá o que isso for!) significa Banana. É em torno dela que se desenrola toda a acção do seu livro "Cem Anos de Solidão" (Livro que estou a ler neste momento).
2ª - Porquê Macondo e não o país das Maravilhas da amiga "Alice" ?
Situações tão mirabolantes como as que acontecem em "Cem Anos de Solidão" só seriam possíveis num "País das Maravilhas" ou algum lugar muito semelhante....se o País das Maravilhas existisse....Macondo seria com certeza a sua capital...

...Ah e....também não queria tirar protagonismo ao Tim Burton...:P

3ª - Mas "País das Maravilhas" não pressupões coisas tipo: liiindas borboletas, florinhas e coiso e tal?
Enfim...talvez considerem o meu trabalho um bocadinho "sombrio" demais para "País das Maravilhas"...mas quer queiramos , quer não...há sempre um outro lado, por vezes mais escuro, em tudo na vida...e o país das Maravilhas não deve ser excepção!

Este não é o nome oficial!!! Este quadro ainda não está concluído, portanto, até lá ainda posso mudar de ideias, mas em principio fica assim...lembrei-me daquela história da Medusa com a cabeça cheia de cobras....

Este é capaz de ser um dos meus favoritos...até hoje...porque em tudo o que faço, gosto de colocar detalhes pequeninos, minusculos; e em óleo tem sido um bocadinho complicado para mim manter esses pormenores. Este parece-me que é a prova de que eu estou a chegar lá...devagarinho...

Que belo nome que eu arranjei para este quadro...absolutamente invulgar: "Quadro a óleo", não é giro?? eu acho, só receio que caia na repetição uma vez que todos os meus quadros....são pintados a óleo....

Sinceramente não sei que nome lhe dar...começei a pintá-lo por pintar, e depois acabei por oferece-lo. Também não era este que queria oferecer, mas como não secou a tempo, ficou este. Com ou sem nome, acho que está engraçado... Mais um bocadinho de experiência que adquiri com esta técnica!

Pronto!! Já me passou a neura, então cá estou eu de volta com um novo template, paciência para continuar com isto por mais uns tempos e ainda por cima com novos trabalhos para mostrar!!!

Em um ano e pouco de blogue, esta é a primeira vez que escrevo em português. Desde que deixei de ter paciência para escrever biografias de designers que sou obrigada a render-me às evidências e a admitir que, apesar dos meus esforços, a grande maioria dos visitantes fala português.
Além disso...a minha paciência é tão pouca que não ia conseguir escrevê-lo em inglês hoje...e hoje é o dia...como nos pacotes de açúcar...é o dia que escolhi para assumir que vou fazer uma pausa nesta porcaria...

Fui subitamente atacada por uma forte desmotivação...vinda não se sabe de onde e não sei por quanto tempo vai ficar...

One year has passed...now...looking back...i can see things that i could have done diferent. Some went just as well as i predicted...some things will never be the same...but there are things that simply will never change...such as my passion for Arts.

I've started thing blog because i wanted to show the world what i could do with Fashion. But i have realised that art can be expressed in so many ways...and im so expressive...sometimes i simply can't help trying out new things...

For this second year to come...i just hope it goes just as well as i thing this one was for this blog. I've spoken of my idols, presented my fashion sketches...i have even tried oil painting myself... it was a nice year...

Here's a nice and inspiring example of the presence of Rococo Style in Portugal. It's called the "Room of the Throne" and you can see it with your own eyes at the Queluz Palace in the area of Sintra.
I went there last week and although there were lots of other rooms to see, i just felt i could stay at this one forever...guess it was love at first sight as it was one of the first rooms i entered...

There's also the Palácio da Pena or ....well...The Feather Palace (as i guess its the correct translation) wich is a million times better, but obviously we are not alowed to take pictures inside...i went there with my school last Easter and its really impressive...

Well, i suppose i failed to post the picture of the completed "The Achievemente of Life" painting, however, i've got something more exciting to post today. Here's my first attempt to create a logo. I was asked by a friend to create a logo. This logo is going to be the image of Salavessa's Association. (Salavessa is a nice little village in Alentejo, Portugal. The one i made first, didn't have any river,but then they (at the association) asked me to add something like a river or a lake...These are the options that come out! Unfortunatelly i can't post the original logo (the one without the river) because while drawing the last option i saved it under the original drawing.

I don't know wich of them they will choose, but my favourite was honestly the one without the river!

And here's another canvas. Started to paint it this afternoon. It is still being painted, so i decided to post various pictures of it, while being made. The next post, (i think) it's the final result. It was ordered by a friend that loved "Eva or Rapunzel"...

This one is going to end at a little girl's bedroom...it is supposed to represent joy, happiness, achievement, but most of all, to express what a wonderful thing it is to be able to give life. (I don't know, i just guess:P)

Most people i know, never guessed that i usually paint canvas on my spare time. To be honest, i do it mostly in the Summer, because the technique i use is oil, and it takes longer to dry when it's rainning...But yes, i paint canvas...Why i never tell anyone?? Probably because i'm too perfectionist, and in my opinion, my paintings are never good enough. I started to paint on canvas with some free oil samples just to see how it worked...and everything i know, i learned from my own attempts to paint correctly, so i know i don't have to be so hard on me...

Anyway, today i finally decided to present some of my oil paintings.

This one was finished last week, and its ready to be offered to someone very special. It is someone from whom i've learned a lot, and deserves everything that is good!!!The painting hasn't a name yet, but it could easilly be called Eve or Rapunzel...i don't know...i don't know...if anyone as a better sugestion, just let me know...

I honestly can't remember if i ever posted these ones before, but as i don't have anything else to post at the moment, ill take the risk...
This is...a part of another old collection made while i was at Great Yarmouth. In this Project, we had to pick a designer, study his/her style, and then create a small collection as if we were him/her. I choosed John Galliano ("tell me something i don't know!!!!!) although it's horrible now i'm looking again, i honestly made sucess in my class that day...
Basically it is a combination of three things Galliano likes to put on his collections:
- If u look closely at the sketches, you'll see that popular spanish musical instrument, that represents Galliano's origins;
- It has a little bit of street style;
- FUR ( HEY, I LOVE ANIMALS, I WAS JUST DOING MY JOB, PRETENDING I WAS HIM!!!);
- And finally you can always connect his collections with some part of art or costume history. In this case, i took rococo.

The Blessing of The Folder

Traditionally in Portugal, every year, someday during Spring, there's a big celebration to congratulate students for the sacrifice they made, to have spent between 3 and 5 years partying, flirting , getting drunk until they all drop, and eventually....for the fact that they have finished their courses and are now officially doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc.

During that celebration, there's a cerimony called something like..."The Blessing of the Folders" in wich a priest blesses a certain folder that every student has.
This folder contains several coloured, silk stripes, that are painted according to the course that the student has done or something that he/she likes; and where family, relatives, and friends write their testimonials and wishes for the student.

I have been painting those stipes for people who ordered, so i decided to post some of them here. The ones i'm posting today, have all the same subject: Butterflies! How original! Hope you like them!!!

Hello! Today i would like to introduce you all my own little felt puppet: The Blue Fairy! It was actually my first attempt to create a puppet, it was only after make sure i was capable of doing it that i took the resposability of helping my friend with "Maria". Now i am simply unable to decide wich of them i like the most!!
The Blue Fairy was clearly harder to do, with so many details, such as the embroidery seeds, or the wet felt technique applied on the skirt,however, Little Maria suits better in our hands, so...i honestly can't decide...!

Hello! Today i would like to invite you all to take a look at my mother's florist shop website, as most of the artworks exposed in there were made by me. Apart from my job, (shop assistant),my studies, and my great interest in fashion, i also work as a florist at my mother's shop. It was probably from Flower Art, that i took my interest in all types of Art. It was actually the first type of art i got experience in. It's a very stimulating job, as you can create arrangements with almost anything. Mixing fresh flowers with dried flowers, recycled materials, or even glitter, it's just an example of how exciting and creative this job can be. But Surprisingly, some people don't look at Flower Works as an Art. Although it's not what i would like to do for my life, working as a florist it's being a great experience, and helps me to express my creativity through other ways apart from fashion. If , for instance, you are one of the persons that as never imagined a flower arrangement as a piece of art, then i invite you to take a look at my portfolio at my mother's website. Hi! Today I decided to post 4 old sketches for a Fashion Illustration Project that I've done while I was studying in England. We started with a Mood Board inspired in the theme "Natural" and then create a small collection from there.I had to leave most of my portfolio in England, and for this reason I honestly can't remember how many sketches we had to do, but I only have 4 pictures left from the whole project.

This sketches are inspired in a kiwi...hahaha, the brown represents the outside part of the kiwi, the green represents the insides, and there's small seeds embroiled in the fabrics that represents, well, the black kiwi seeds! Hope everyone likes them, although they're not as good as I know I can do now!! They're three years old after all!

Madeleine Vionnet Biography

Without this creator's dream, Hollywood's glamour would never exist, with its naked shoulders dresses, that embrace the body as it was liquid silk. It´s avant-gardist creations, as the feminine trousers, took a long while to impose themselves, but today, they´re as essential in the fashion world as a pair of trousers is in a wardrobe. Madeleine Vionnet, is the bias-cut master, and no one as ever exceeded her fabulous technique. Even Azzedine Alaïa an artist of the cut himself, took ages until he finaly understand Madeleine Vionnet´s mysteries of the cut, and remains himself the only person to understand the technique she as used to create her ivory gown from 1935.

Since that date, we can observe this dress correctly exposed at the Musée de la Mode et du Textile de Paris, as before that date, it was considered an unfinished project. It is obviously a master-piece, wich perfect shape depends only from one stitch - Madeleine Vionnets biggest aim. Probably it was her fascination for geometry that allowed her to develop such refined cuts from basic forms like squares and triangles. In spite of his talent for the mathematics, Vionnet, born in 1876 in the middle of a modest family, she had to leave school very early, at 12 years of age. Learn the cut technique while working for a while in Paris, but, at 16 years of age, she moved to London, where she started her life as a washer-woman.

After a short marriage and the death of her little daughter, Vionnet assumed the direction of Kate Reilly´s atelier in London, only with 20 years old.
In 1900, she returned to Paris, where she took a job in one of the most conceptualized fashion houses, Soueurs Callot. In 1907, Jaques Doucet trusted her the task of rejuvenate the style of his fashion house.
She finally opened her own fashion house in 1912. However, only after the war, it began to grow.

Her necessity to promote herself was never completly understood, and she almost fell into the obvilion after 1939, when her fashion house was shut down.
Compared to Chanel, Vionnet is seen as unknown. That is probably because she builted "Rolls Royces" while the other, with her popular black belts, was the "Ford" of Fashion.

Coco Chanel's stylish, elegant designs revolutionized fashion during the 1910s, freeing women from the uncomfortable and stiff apparel worn at the end of the 19th century. Chanel furthered her own image: the woman of the 20th century, embodying independence, success, personality, style, and confidence.

The influential Chanel suit, launched in 1924, was an elegant outfit composed of a knee-length skirt paired with a trim, boxy jacket, traditionally made of woven wool with black trim and gold buttons and worn with large costume-pearl necklaces.

Chanel also popularized the little black dress which had a blank-slate versatility that allowed it to be worn for both day and night. The black Chanel dress was strapless, backless and more than a little risqué. It shocked the general public at large but quickly became a fashion sensation. I thought that one of the very first things to do in this blog was introducing myself. I have already done it, (and I think its pretty explicit),but I might have skipped the part where I´m supposed to explain what this blog is about. I decided to do it now because I´m not far from the beginning yet. Although its pretty obvious that this blog is related to fashion, some of you might have been wondering why the description of the blog says "Beyond Fashion"... Well, this blog is just the result of a little bit of the way I think and the way I want my future to be. I said in my very first post that i consider myself an artist. In abridgment, my objective is to become a fashion designer, and hopefully be able to do that for living. ( i´m just saying this because i have friends that graduated in fashion design, and are now working in some other industries...seems like there is no place for them in the fashion world,yet...) But the only reason why i want to become a fashion designer, is to be able to officially sell my Art. I know i might look weird by saying this, but this is just the way i see the world. I've also mentioned what one of my Fashion teachers told me once about what he thought about modern fashion designers (that we are unable to create anything new). Well, he thinks that we are incapable to create, so he simply teaches his students to find out what the fashion dictators are dictating to be the tendencies, and to design something from there. If this is the way people teach students around the world, i honestly think they are wrong. If we are studying to create something that has already been invented, then...why do we need fashion designers for???The ones we call fashion dictators are the ones that crossed the line of the impossible and innovated when everyone else thought that there was nothing beyond. If you think big, you might grow, but if you have small minds, then you just keep in touch with the tendencies... I am simply going to use Fashion Design as an Art tool...i cant promise i going innovate, but at least i´ll try hard. I'm not going to limit myself to follow tendencies neither my objective is to become a fashion dictator myself. I want to do Art in the shape of fashion, and help my customers to dress the way they like, no matter what the tendencies are. Fashion is Innovation. But I'm beyond that...

Someone that lives daydreaming and doesn´t manage to discipline himself at work simply had to born to be an artist.Plump, joyful and a dreamer, Paul Poiret was born at the 8th of April 1879. His parents were cloth commerciants in Hallen in the heart of Paris. He served an apprenticeship with Jacques Doucet in the 1890s, moved to the Maison Worth in 1900, and in 1902 opened his own small studio. Dominating Paris couture from 1909 to 1914, Poiret revolutionized fashion with his designs for the “new woman,” ending wasp waists and constricting corsets, reviving a simple, Empire-waisted silhouette, and introducing pantaloons.His first fashion house was on the Rue Auber in Paris. There he produced innovative designs such as the kimono coat, and enlarged his clientele of famous customers. The richness of materials, violence of colouring and style and taste for orientalism in such designs as that for the Sorbet dress all suggest a profound affinity with the Ballets Russes. In 1910 he opened new salon in a large 18th-century house, in the Avenue d'Antin, where he created his famous 'hobble-skirted' dresses, drawn in at the hem.
He adopted an orientalizing style in the theatrical costumes he designed later for Nabuchodonosor, first peformed in January 1911 at the Theatre des Arts in Paris; Le Minaret, performed during the spring of 1913 at the Theatre de la Renaissance in Paris; and Aphrodite, performed during the spring of 1914 at the Theatre de la Renaissance. Alike other famous figures of history Poiret had great moments of glory, and died in misery, forgotten by everyone. John Galliano´ s Biography

John Galliano is one of the hero's of the British fashion. Son of emigrant parents, Galliano was born and was born in 1960 and was baptized Juan Carlos Antonio. Galliano´s mum is Spanish and his father is from Gibraltar, the British colony that saw him born and grow. At his six years of age, his family moved to the south of London. But his past, with the religious ceremonies and the culture full of colour and sun, end up being a constant inspiration for Galliano, who proudly assumed his Latin vanity as his signature and his trademark. After completing Wilson´s Grammar School for Boys, Galliano entered Central Saint Martin’s College of Arts, where he graduated in 1984. His graduation collection, inspired in the French revolution and called "Les Incroyables" was immediately bought by Joan Burstein from Browns and it launched him to success. In 1992, after a past marked by financial difficulties, problems with supporters and collections considered commercially impracticable, Galliano moved to Paris, where he started to present his collections. In 1995, he was announced successor of Hubert at Givenchy house. One year later, he jumped from Givenchy to Dior where he presents his fabulous collections today.

A Fashion Genius

Today I am going to write a little bit about someone that I deeply admire. Someone that completely changed the fashion world.

John Galliano.

More than an extravagant fashion designer, Galliano is a genius.
He is - in my opinion- one of the greatest artists of all time.
Yes, I rather call him Artist than a simple Fashion Designer.
Because that is what he does. Art!
Those things he presents at his theatre-like fashion shows aren't only expensive garments. Those, are masterpieces.
Once a teacher told me that the first fashion designers have already invented what we (humankind) had to invent in terms of Fashion, so what new designers does, is to reinvent what was done in the past.
He also criticized my first collection because my designs were "too different, and too complicated".
That upset me a lot because as a teenager, I thought somehow I could change the world...
and by saying that we were unable to create, but only reinvent, he was...in other words ...tying my hands...
He made me believe that there was nothing we (youth) could do, that no matter how hard we tried, we would never be able to create anything new, because everything is already invented. And so I saw Galliano´s work.
John Galliano is the living proof that we are still capable to create.
Although its always obvious which part of history he took as an inspiration every time we look at one of his creations, we can also say, that his creations are unique.
I deeply admire John Galliano, because he proved the world wrong, and made me believe.
Viva la Vida!

History Inspires Me

History inspires me...

Portugal is a country full of history and legends, and that is one of the things that makes me feel proud of being Portuguese. Its pretty easy to find different stories to use as an inspiration;thousands of worlds inside my world that have never been explored; each one of them full of colour, and little details, that when intelligently mixed with a bit of creativity, can culminate in unique creations.

Let me tell you one of those:

"At a banquet given by a rich landowner in Barcelos, a valuable piece of silver was stolen and one of guests was accused of the theft. He was tried by the court and was found guilty. In spite of the overwhelming evidence against him, he still protested his innocence. The magistrate granted the man a final chance to prove his case. Seeing a cock in a basket nearby he said, “If I am innocent, the cock will crow.” The cock crowed and the prisoner was allowed to go free."

With a simple old legend, and a simple image, i decided to create a small colection of five garments, for a fashion contest in 2007. Although i didn't get any prize, i´m still happy with my creations, and for this reason, im exposing them in this blog.

Before starting making judgments about my work, let me just remind you that i am not a fashion designer or even a fashion student. I have studied fashion & textiles 2 years ago, but was unable to finish my course. One of my biggest dreams is to be able to finish what i left undone in the past.

Can´t say that people think I’m different or special. I'm also unable to specify something in which I'm better than the others. I like fashion, although I don´t dress weird or posh. In fact, I look pretty normal. But one thing I can´t deny: I have a different point of view. At least from everyone around me. Obviously there must be a lot of people in the Universe thinking the same way. Simply we haven't had the pleasure to meet yet. If you´re one of those, then feel free to watch this blog, comment or even criticize it if you like. If not, then just don´t bother. I simply don´t care about what you think. I appreciate when people disagree with me, when their aim is to open my mind to other points of view. I don´t mind admit that I'm wrong. You just have to prove so. Anyway, my name is Vilma. I'm 20 years old and with this age, the only thing I believe I am sure is that I am an Artist. Why do I consider myself an artist? Well, I consider myself an artist because I am one of those who are able to see beauty and good where others might not see anything...plus, I'm a very sensitive person. I'm not saying this because I cry at the smallest problem. In fact, I barely cry although I'm frequently sad. I'm very sensitive simply because I appreciate details. And that´s what Art is made of.
